The LumiWatch smart watch turns your arm into a touch screen

Do you like the idea of a device that does not need to be picked up or transported?

You may be impressed by the LumiWatch prototype , a new smart watch from researchers at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh, United States, which turns your arm or hand into a touch screen.

The LumiWatch is fully functional and autonomous, uses a bright 15 lumen projection module and a touch sensor to offer you a touch screen interface directly on your body. You just have to touch and slide directly on your own skin to open the device and control the applications.

The researchers presented their work on the interface this week at the SIGCHI (Special Interest Group on Human Computational Interaction) conference in Canada.

The smart watch runs on Android 5.1 and can be connected to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi. It has a Qualcomm CPU with four cores at 1.2 GHz, 768 MB of RAM, 4 GB of flash memory and a lithium-ion battery of 740 mAh.

In a video released this week, the LumiWatch prototype is shown in action, with users sliding and touching colorful images projected onto their arms. Users also demonstrate the continuous capabilities of finger tracking in 2D.

Once in production, the LumiWatch is expected to cost around US $ 600. While this prototype is innovative in terms of touch screen projections, it is not the first smart watch with a projector. In February, technology company Haier launched Asu Smartwatch, which uses a small projector to transmit images to the user's arm.

The Asu Smartwatch has 1 GB of memory inside, is powered by a 1.2GHz processor and includes an integrated exercise monitor, a stopwatch, a heart rate sensor, GPS, 4G LTE support and a gyroscope.
