When a 45-year-old woman’s leg became caught in the gap between an Orange Line train and the platform Friday afternoon, she was in agony. The cut on her leg went down to the bone.

Beyond her pain, she had another fear. Shaking and crying, she begged people not to call an ambulance. “Do you know how much an ambulance costs?” she wept.

Her fellow passengers rushed to her aid. One man stood behind her so she could lean on him. Another passenger placed a cold bottle of water to her leg. And at least 10 people pushed on the car together, moving it just enough for the woman to pull free, according to a video of the accident the MBTA released Monday.

Please don’t call the ambulance: Woman tells rescuers after a horrific injury

Marleny Polanco said she was at Mass. Ave. Station at the peak of rush hour when she heard the woman scream. Immediately, a group of men were there to help push the train away from the platform, Polanco said. “It all just happened so fast,” Polanco said. “I think within a minute or so, she was able to pull her leg out.”

A few people helped wrap her leg in a compress, Polanco said. Despite her injuries, the woman did not want anyone to call an ambulance, saying it would cost her thousands of dollars.

Polanco, who lives in Lawrence, said she didn’t think the accident was the woman’s fault, saying the gap between the platform and the train cart was too wide.

The gap was 5 inches, MBTA officials said.

The woman’s painful calculation that she could not afford an ambulance has drawn wide attention after a Globe reporter who witnessed the aftermath of the platform accident posted about it on Twitter. The post has received more than 6,700 retweets and 13,000 likes.

On Monday, the New York Times editorial board wrote about the accident under the headline “This Tweet Captures the State of Health Care in America Today.” On Twitter, people registered their outrage that the cost of medical treatment could prevent someone from seeking urgent care.

According to a police report, the woman suffered no broken bones but her left thigh suffered a “serious laceration, exposing the bone” and would need surgery. She was taken to Boston Medical Center.

The accident happened at 5:30 p.m. Emergency medical officials arrived within minutes, according to the police report.

Jim Hooley, chief of Boston EMS, said an ambulance transporting people within the city would cost between $1,200 to $1,900 at most for patients with the most pressing needs, like resuscitation.

“We just worry about taking care of people,” Hooley said. “We don’t want to cause them more stress. We just want to reassure them that nothing bad is going to happen to them because of their inability to pay.”
A woman from Tunisia’s moderate Islamic party was elected on Tuesday as mayor of the capital city, Tunis, the first time a woman holds the post.

Souad Abderrahim, a 54-year-old pharmacist of the Ennahdha party, won the post in the second round of voting by the municipal council. She defeated her top rival, Kamel Idir, of the party Nida Tounes, founded by the Tunisian president.

First female mayor elected for Tunisia’s capital

Abderrahim, a former lawmaker and militant for women’s rights, doesn’t wear a veil. She was the only winner so far among a half-dozen women from the Ennahdha party who competed for mayoral posts in the region around Tunis.
Tunisia’s municipal elections were held May 6, but newly-elected municipal councils are only now voting for mayors.

In 2016, Ennahdha declared that it was separating politics from religion, stepping away from the notion of political Islam typically embodied by Islamic parties.

Abderrahim said in an interview with The Associated Press during campaigning that cleaning up the capital and planting trees would be her first priority.

She also said that the female candidates put forth by her party constitute a “message aimed at reassuring the women of my country” that advances made by women in the North African nation would not be compromised by her party.

Tunisia has been the most advanced among Arab nations regarding women’s rights since gaining independence from France in 1956, with its first president Habib Bourguiba enshrining some principles of equality of men and women in the constitution.

An oil tanker truck caught fire in Nigeria’s commercial capital Lagos on Thursday, killing nine people and burning out 53 other vehicles, an emergency agency official said.

The accident happened on a motorway that connects Lagos and the city of Ibadan, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) spokesman Adeshina Tiamiyu said. He said a distress call was received at around 05:33 p.m. (1633 GMT).

“Nine people are dead and four injured are in hospital”, said Tiamiyu.

A spokesman for the Federal Road Safety Commission, Bisi Kazeem, said the crash happened around Otedola bridge on the section of the road heading out of Lagos.

He said the cause of the accident was brake failure. He added that the tanker, five buses, two trucks, a tricycle and 45 cars were burnt out.

“As a government, we would not relent in putting measures in place to ensure safety of lives and property of all residents,” said Lagos state government spokesman Kehinde Bamigbetan in an emailed statement.

“We extend our deepest commiseration to the families of persons who lost their lives as well as properties to the incident.” The statement added that the state government was clearing damaged vehicles from the road.

A man armed with a shotgun and smoke grenades burst into a newspaper office in the US city of Annapolis on Thursday, killing five employees in what police described as a "targeted attack."

Officials said the shooting at the Capital Gazette was carried out by a white adult male resident of Maryland state who was being questioned in custody.

The Baltimore Sun - which owns the Capital Gazette - identified the suspected shooter as Jarrod Ramos, who it said had a long-running dispute with the newspaper over a 2011 story "that covered a criminal harassment case against him."

Police said the suspect is believed to have acted alone and there are “no further threats” connected with the attack.

There were five fatalities and two superficial injuries, the acting police chief of Anne Arundel county, Bill Krampf, told journalists in Maryland's capital.

He identified the dead as four journalists - Gerald Fischman, Rob Hiaasen, John McNamara and Wendi Winters - and sales assistant Rebecca Smith.

"This was a targeted attack on the Capital Gazette," Krampf said.

Krampf said that police did not yet know the shooter's motive, but "we know that there were threats sent to the Gazette through social media."

"We're trying to confirm what account that was and we're trying to confirm who actually sent them," Krampf added.

A reporter for the daily, which has roots dating back to the eighteenth century, tweeted a chilling account of how the "gunman shot through the glass door to the office and opened fire on multiple employees."

"There is nothing more terrifying than hearing multiple people get shot while you're under your desk and then hear the gunman reload," crime reporter Phil Davis said.

Jimmy DeButts, a Capital Gazette journalist, tweeted that he was "devastated & heartbroken. Numb."

"I'm in no position to speak, just know @capgaznews reporters & editors give all they have every day. There are no 40 hour weeks, no big paydays - just a passion for telling stories from our community," DeButts wrote.

Chase Cook, a reporter at the newspaper, said the shooting would not stop The Capital - the local print edition - from going to press.

President Donald Trump, who has been at loggerheads with much of the media since taking office, tweeted a message of support.

"My thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families. Thank you to all of the First Responders who are currently on the scene," he wrote.

"A violent attack on innocent journalists doing their job is an attack on every American," White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders tweeted.

Several lawmakers also weighed in.

"My heart is with the families, friends and loved ones of the victims as we learn more about this terrible situation," Chris Van Hollen, the state's junior senator said. "We must unite to end the violence."

"The senseless attack on a Maryland newspaper today is sickening. God bless these journalists," House Speaker Paul Ryan tweeted.

The shooting was first reported around 2:40 p.m. local time.
Bishop David Oyedepo of the Living Faith Church has declared war on those behind the ongoing killings in Plateau State.

The fiery cleric, while speaking during the Covenant Hours of Prayer, monitored on Tuesday, affirmed that those behind the attacks would be wasted.

He said, “One of the leaders in Plateau State spoke yesterday that since the crisis started, 52 villages were now desolate.

“For everyone behind this crisis, may they and their generations be destroyed. May their generations perish. May they never be remembered.

“Anyone who has made people’s land and families desolate, we declare them desolate today.

“Let the arrow of God locate them. Let it locate their sponsors. Let it locate all the perpetrators. Let it locate anyone backing them in government from today.”

A Video is currently trending online showing the moment a young man was rescued and arrested after allegedly jumping inside a lagoon in Lagos in a bid to kill himself. Rescuers at the Lagoon were swift to rescue the troubled young man after jumping into the water.

When he was being rescued and arrested, the young man (in black shirt) was shouting, ‘let me just die, you people should leave me alone, what is in this life’.

He was later taken into custody by the authorities in order to determine what led to his suicide attempt and also prevent him from killing himself.

An eyewitness, Chiekezi Dozie shared the footage on Facebook as he wrote; There are too many people trying to commit suicide in Lagos. When did suicide become “a thing”??

James Rynerson, freed after being mistaken for an inmate who was due for release, went home to his wife; she drove him straight back to jail

The next time James Rynerson gets out of jail, it’s fair to say that he and his wife might have a bit of talking to do.

Late last month Rynerson, 38, thought his luck was in and he was out. An identity mix-up led to him being incorrectly freed from Mesa County Jail, Colorado, where he was being held while awaiting trial on menacing, disorderly conduct and trespass charges.

Perhaps understandably, Rynerson took advantage of being freed in error to go home to his wife.

Wife drove husband back to prison two hours after being mistakenly released from prison

Perhaps surprisingly – for Rynerson – she did not share his joy at his new-found freedom and instead drove him straight back to jail.

She had her husband back behind bars less than two hours after he had been let out.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel reported that court documents have now revealed the chain of events that led to Rynerson being freed in error.

It began when he was temporarily joined in his cell by another inmate, Marvin March, 35.

March later moved out of Rynerson’s cell but the jail’s housing list was reportedly not immediately updated to reflect this. Which allegedly meant that when March was due for release, the warders went to Rynerson’s cell and took out the only person inside it: Rynerson.

It appears that jail staff did not check to see that they had got the man who should have been released: March.

The prison guards, it seems, only realised what had happened when March approached one of them and asked when he was going to be released.

Mesa County Sheriff's Sergeant Henry Stoffel has said that  jail staff failed to follow correct procedure by omitting to check Rynerson's wristband and picture, and that an investigation is under way to determine whether prison policy around the housing list needs to be updated.

It was not immediately clear whether Rynerson knew he was being freed in error and decided against informing jail staff of their mistake, or whether he thought he was the beneficiary of an unexpected but genuine reprieve.

It has, however, been reported that in addition to the accusations of menacing, disorderly conduct and trespass, Rynerson now faces charges of escape, forgery and criminal impersonation.

Sgt Stoffel praised Mrs Rynerson for doing the right thing.

Mr Rynerson’s feelings on the matter have yet to be revealed.

Authorities in Nigeria are set to shut down the land border between Nigeria and an unnamed neighboring country in a few days’ time to avoid smuggling of foreign rice into the country.

Nigeria shares borders with Niger, Chad, Benin and Cameroon and authorities, without mentioning which country, says that their local rice production is suffering as a result of the unnamed country’s actions of smuggling rice into Nigeria.

The minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Chief Audu Ogbeh, disclosed the plan to shut the border yesterday in Abuja while speaking with youths in a leadership clinic under the auspices of Guardians of the Nation International (GOTNI).

Authorities in Nigeria are set to shut down over ‘poisonous rice’

“Poisonous materials” and “arsenic” are among the substances Nigeria’s agricultural minister Ogbeh claims are present in imported rice

He further endorsed this move necessary in order to encourage local production and sustain the economy of the country.

The agriculture minister claimed in 2017 that Nigeria would become self-sufficient in rice production by the end of the year.

As many as 21 of the 39 rice-producing countries in Africa import between 50% and 99% of their rice requirements, according to the UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization.

In the past few months, the federal government has been seeking ways to ensure that the Memorandum of Understanding (M0U) Nigeria signed with its neighbouring countries to check smuggling is implemented. Rice importation is said to have reduced by 95 per cent while the number of rice farmers has increased from five million to 30 million in the last two years.
New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern gave birth to her first child, a baby girl weighing 3.31 kilograms, in an Auckland hospital Thursday, making her the second elected leader to ever give birth.

The 37-year-old, who was elected in October, announced in January that she and her partner Clarke Gayford were expecting a baby.

She has now passed on her duties to the Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters, saying she will take six weeks of maternity leave.

Los Angeles police are investigating reports of elder abuse against Stan Lee that come amid a struggle over the life and fortune of the 95-year-old Marvel Comics mogul, court documents showed Wednesday.

The investigation was revealed in a restraining order granted against Keya Morgan, who in recent months has been acting as Lee’s business manager and personal adviser.

Morgan has inserted himself into the life of the Lee, according to the order. The filing accuses Morgan, 42, of taking advantage of Lee’s impaired hearing, vision and judgment, moving Lee from his longtime family home and preventing family and associates from contacting him.

Los Angeles Police investigate elder abuse of Marvel Comics’ Stan Lee

Morgan was arrested on Monday for allegedly filing a false police report by calling 911 and saying burglars were in his house when in fact two detectives and a social worker were conducting a welfare check on Lee.

“I have a very dear friend I take care of who is 95 and um, uh, three unidentified people have gone inside this house and locked the door and locked his security out and I’m very, very scared that they’re harming him,” Morgan said on the 911 call made on May 30, according to a transcript filed with the restraining order.

Attempts to reach Morgan on Wednesday were not immediately successful. An attorney he hired on a previous criminal case said he no longer works for Morgan, and it’s not clear if he’s retained a new attorney. Morgan’s cell phone was no longer accepting messages.

Los Angeles Police investigate elder abuse of Marvel Comics’ Stan Lee

Morgan’s arrest and ouster is the latest and most dramatic move in the fight that has emerged over Lee’s business and estimated 50 million US dollar fortune since his wife of 69 years Joan died in July.

Police have been investigating reports of elder abuse against Lee since at least February, and had issued an emergency order keeping Morgan from Lee even before Wednesday’s order was issued.

Lee has for decades been revered as a comic book giant for his central role in creating the Incredible Hulk, Spider-Man, Iron Man and other major Marvel characters. In more recent years he has become a grandfatherly figure over the Marvel Cinematic Universe, with his comical cameos in each film beloved by fans.

Morgan is a memorabilia dealer and Marilyn Monroe expert who befriended Lee’s daughter and only child J.C. Lee, and since February has increasingly taken personal control of Lee’s life and household, taking advantage of Lee’s age to influence and isolate him, Lee’s attorney Tom Lallas said in the restraining order request.
Do you consider babies attractive? Along with people who are not enthusiastic about children, there is a whole army of real lovers of kids who do their best to protect their rights. They take care of children and adore the way babies look, play, eat. Crumbs can not protect themselves from abusers, so they often become their victims. In the worst cases, it is sexual violence.

Why is this girl behaving like a child?

Why is she doing this?

From this article you will learn about the very interesting girl Tori from Oregon. She was deprived of a real happy childhood, as she was sexually abused as a little girl. Tori underwent therapy to cope with this trauma, but nothing helped. It was so hard until she began to act like a child. Dressed in all these diapers and sliders, with a pacifier in her mouth, the girl says that she manages to regain her carefree childhood. Are you wondering if she uses her diapers as intended? Tori says that he visits the bathroom only to change the diaper.

Why is this girl behaving like a child?

What do people think?

But the community in Instagram (and thousands of its subscribers as well) views its behavior as a certain form of perversion, like some kind of fetish. Nevertheless, Tori does not care much about this, since she does not have a pope who would punish her and read fairy tales for the night (as happens in role-playing games). Instead, she has a nanny. A woman approaches her to play with her, feed him and even punish him for his bad behavior. The adult girl says that she basically behaves like a 3 year old child, but she can sometimes behave like a one-year-old baby and as a girl who is ten years old. She lives with her mother, who does not see anything wrong with such a game of her daughter. The woman says that she will do everything to help her child. And since this is the only activity that helps her overcome depression and anxiety, so be it.

Why is this girl behaving like a child?

Friends of Tori do not see anything wrong with what she does at home after work. They say that this is her choice. And since the girl does not involve them in her games, she is free to do whatever she wants, behind the closed door. They all believe that Tory is a strong enough person and will soon be able to live a normal life. And friends are always there to support his girlfriend. At the moment, Tori does not have a boyfriend. But when she was in a relationship, she often asked the guy if she could wear this or that outfit and behave like a child. The partner was not always satisfied with this course of events. Most likely, it is not always pleasant to see how an adult behaves like a child.

Conclusion

She is not one of those girls who only think about their money in Instagram, trying to catch a big jackpot. Tori works at a fast food restaurant and plans to go to college. She also tries to earn cash using her account in Instagram, exhibiting goods and things for sale.
According to a sad story which is making the rounds online, the guy identified as Emeka Okafor a.k.a Oracle, committed suicide after realizing that the money he was using to show off on social media was all gone.

It was gathered that the sad incident occurred, yesterday, in the Johannesburg area of South Africa, where the Nigerian lived until his death. A cup containing the lethal substance was found close to his dead body.

John Lasseter has left Pixar and this time is forever.

Last November, the award-winning Disney animator, co-founder, director and executive producer of Pixar took a six-month leave of absence while being accused of sexual harassment and will now officially leave the company at the end of the year.

John Lasseter, co-founder of Pixar, to leave Disney for good over sexual harassment

Lasseter will remain a consultant until December 31 and it seems he may have other plans after that: "I have decided that by the end of this year it will be the right time to start focusing on new creative challenges," he said in a statement.

It is worth noting that "taking a license", "staying as a consultant" and "focusing on new creative challenges" are common euphemisms that are used when a company executive runs out.

However, it seems that Disney is showing this situation as a friendly arrangement.

Following the #MeToo movement, where allegations of sexual assault and misconduct began to take more seriously than ever, it would be more surprising that Lasseter returned to Disney after his six-month leave.

Here is the full statement of Disney and Lasseter:

DECLARATION OF THE WALT DISNEY COMPANY

After his sabbatical, John Lasseter will assume a consulting role at The Walt Disney Company until December 31, 2018, at which time he will leave the company.

"John held a prominent position at Pixar and Disney Animation, reinventing the animation business, taking on dazzling risks and telling high-quality original stories that will last forever," said Robert A. Iger, president and CEO of The Walt Disney Company. . "We are deeply grateful for his contributions, which included a remarkable and masterly change from The Walt Disney Animation Studios." One of John's greatest achievements was bringing together a team of great storytellers and innovators with the vision and talent to set the standard. in animation of the generations to come ".

"The last six months gave me the opportunity to reflect on my life, my professional career and my personal priorities," said John Lasseter. "While I'm still dedicated to the art of animation and inspired by the creative talent of Pixar and Disney, I've decided that the end of this year will be the right time to start focusing on new creative challenges, and I'm extremely proud of what two of the Most important and prolific animation studios have achieved under my leadership and I am grateful for all the opportunities to follow my creative passion at Disney. The number of employees in non-farm payrolls in the United States increased by 223,000 in May - the government's Office of Labor Statistics (BLS) has informed. The unemployment rate fell to 3.8%, reaching the lowest level in 18 years.

Unemployment in America is the lowest in 18 years

After two weaker months, the American "payrolls" this time met the expectations of economists who expected a reading of 185 thousand after May.

The increase in employment in the private sector amounted to 218 thousand and also turned out to be higher than the median forecasts of economists (+185 thousand). A solid increase in the number of jobs was recorded in industry (+47 thousand) and in construction (+5,000). But as usual, the overall performance was determined by the services sector, where 171,000 jobs were found. people.

The average length of working time did not change and amounted to 34.5 hours per week. The average hour rate increased by 0.3% m / m and 2.7% y / y, which was broadly in line with analysts' expectations. The wage growth in the United States remains so low that (at least in theory) it does not threaten the rapid acceleration of price inflation.

The unemployment rate calculated in a separate study fell from 3.9% to 3.8%. This is the lowest reading since April 2000! The survey showed an increase in the number of employed by 293 thousand and a decrease in the number of unemployed by 281 thousand. This means that the economically inactive population (ie people who do not work and do not seek employment) increased by 170,000.

Almost 96 million Americans of working age remain without paid employment and do not even look for a job. The professional activity rate (ie the ratio of the employed and the unemployed to the working age population) decreased by 0.1 percentage points. percent. up to 62.7%. Thus, the very low unemployment rate in the US does not necessarily indicate the strength of the American labor market.

“I saw her appearing as a lion, so, I grabbed a knife and stabbed the lion; I then realised later that I had killed my wife,” Sibanda said in his defense.

Justice Mathonsi said, “Sibanda should not be held responsible for his actions because of his mental condition.

“Instead, he should get some serious help. Therefore, I see it fit not to send him back to jail but instead should be transferred to a mental institution.”

It was also confirmed that Sibanda’s family had a history of mental illness.

Police Arrests Teenager Who Sold His Brother to Ritual Killer to Pay Bride Price

Police in Niger State have arrested a teenager for allegedly selling his six-year-old brother to a ritual killer for N20,000. The 19-year-old suspect, Aliyu Basala Yakutchi, without mincing words, confessed to have sold his kid brother, Yamusa Ibrahim Yakutchi, to ritual killer in order to raise money to pay his wife’s bride price. The incident was said to have occurred about 10 days ago.

Aliyu, from Nagenu village in Katcha Local Government Area, sold his brother to 30-year-old Legbo, from Afuwagi village in Mokwa Local Government Area. Police disclosed that Legbo was presently on the run. Aliyu, who claimed to be the third among his mother’s six children, said that he sold his brother on credit.

Aliyu, who apparently didn’t know or understand the gravity of his action, pleaded with the police to release him unconditionally so that he could go and tend to his farm. He said: “I decided to sell my younger brother for N20,000 on credit so that I can raise money to pay for the bride price of my 14-year-old lover.

I took my younger brother, Yamusa, to Malam Legbo for money rituals because he promised to pay me N20,000 if he succeeded in using him for money rituals. I wanted to use the money to finance my marriage to Fatimah. Our father is dead, but our mother is still alive, her name is Hajiya Yakure.

“Prior to my arrest by the police, I had not been paid by Legbo. The money might not even be enough for my marriage requirements.” Asked the whereabouts of Legbo, Aliyu said: “I think he ran away with my brother when he got the information that the police were looking for him.

I blame the devil for pushing me into hatching this evil plan against my brother. I don’t even know where Legbo has taken my brother to.” While exonerating Fatimah from the crime, Aliyu noted: “She does not know about my evil plan to sell my little brother to offset her bride price.

I’m a farmer and a bachelor. I got enrolled into an Islamic school during my childhood days but my parents couldn’t afford to send me to school. I only speak our local dialect, Nupe language; I cannot speak or understand Hausa language too.”

As at the time of filing this report, the whereabouts of Legbo and Yamusa were still unknown. The police had already paid a visit to Legbo’s village, but met a cold trail.
43-year-old uncle Allegedly Defiles 11-Year-Old Niece, Thrice

One Ifeanyi Adieme has been arrested by the Lagos State police for allegedly defiling an 11-year-old girl handed her over to him by her parents, to look after his three children.

The girl who attends Iba Estate Primary School, Ojo, Lagos, on May 20, 2018, opened up to one of the coordinators of her church’s children section on how she had been subjected to sexual abuse and defilement by Adieme.

The pastor of the church was said to have reported the matter to Iba Police Station, following a medical confirmation of Adeime’s sexual abuse of the girl, and he was arrested.

Adieme, who runs a frozen food retail shop, lost his wife in January. A medical report from Igando General Hospital confirmed that the girl was actually defiled.

According to the girl, it all started on a Friday night around 10pm after Adieme’s chidren had gone to bed. She said: “He called me into his room, When I entered he brought out his private part.

I screamed and made to leave the room, he dragged me back and warned me not to make a noise. He asked me to kneel down and began to lick. I told him I can’t do that. He hit me on the head and said that he will beat me if I don’t do it.

I started doing it; he held my head and was pushing it inside my mouth. When something started coming out, I tried to withdraw but he said I should continue to lick it.

Another night, I wanted to go and sleep he called me back. He pulled all my cloth and asked me to lie down on the bed. Then he started doing it. He said that if I tell anybody that he will kill me.”

When the DPO, Gbenga Ogunsakin, confronted Adieme over the allegation, fell on his knees and begged for mercy; he said it was the devil that pushed him and more likely to be the curse that was placed on him by his wife’s relative.

The case has since been transferred to the Gender Unit of the Lagos State Police Command. The state’s Police Public Relations Officer(PPRO), Chike Oti, who confirmed the incident, revealed that the suspect will soon face the law.
